Sober Homes in Johannesburg
Recovery Direct operates a secured sober living home referral service based in Johannesburg. Sober homes consist of all the routines and operations of the private residential rehab without the restrictions of access and maintenance requirements in primary care. Patients generally graduate to sober home style living immediately after the initial 28 days in recovery. Staying in the secondary care facility and taking part in daily group therapy and counselling services.
Halfway Houses in Johannesburg
The term halfway houses and halfway homes for addiction are used interchangeably with sober homes in addiction recovery. Recovery Direct’s recommended halfway houses are on an availability and request basis only and consist of reduced rate accommodation services in homes external to the Recovery Direct primary care services. These houses operate much like communal living homes for like minded individuals looking to maintain their newly gained sobriety and reintegrate back into day to day life away from detrimental addiction behaviours. Residents still often attend Recovery Direct’s outpatient’s program and continue using the many tools gained in the primary care facility.
Specific Treatment Sober Homes
Most of our recommended sober home facilities offer both private rooms and shared rooms and have a broad range of specialist counsellors and support group services designed to help guests make the transition from formal recovery care back to face the real world on your own terms.

Still maintaining the structured format of primary care and the professional support structures needed to deal with reformatting life in sobriety.
Our recommended sober homes can accommodate individuals in close proximity to their family and work environments where possible.
There are a number of treatment centres that are either state, charity or church-funded facilities available to members of the public in South Africa. These are chiefly managed by the Department of Social Development. Free facilities are notoriously difficult to get into due to the high demand, thus the bulk of free “treatment” happens in the rooms of autonomous and anonymous 12 step organisations. Department registered private facilities are not always free. Some “government registered” rehabs are more expensive than Recovery Direct’s private care centre. Most of the free rehab services exist in the format of Anonymous group meetings like AA or NA.
